18b Aerosol Paintings of Las Vegas
Author: Steven Dansky
"18b Aerosol Paintings of Las Vegas" is an exhibit by Steven Dansky, of vibrant and highly saturated color photographs taken over the course of more than a year in the Arts District of Las Vegas. The photographs represent graffiti art and murals that have been aerosol-painted on railroad cottages that were built in the early 1900s. The cottages are in various states of disrepair, but serve as a canvas for the painted cartoon inspired images, tags and paintings.
The exhibition is about appearance and disapperance. Graffiti art, by definition is often temporary; there is always the threat of it being torn down, sprayed over by another artist or painted over by the city. The exhibit preserves the work of graffiti artists with anarchic power of creativity, who take the risks to bring their art to the public and to the streets of the city .
Reception: 3/19/2013 5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
