Topic for August: Carnevale Bianco in Cegni

Each year on August 16, in the mountain village of Cegni, located in the "Quattro" province area of Italy, the villagers hold the festival known as Carnevale Bianco. They recreate the story of the beautiful young woman whose parents want her to marry a rich older man. She doesn't want to marry him, so she runs away and hides. The would-be husband looks for her everywhere and finally finds her and brings her back to town where the marriage takes place. In the Carnevale Bianco in Cegni, the betrothed are acted out by two men for comedic effect. The music for the ceremony is played on an accordion and an oboe-like instrument called a piffero. The villagers dance the traditional dances of the area.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, please call (702) 507-3631.
