National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is an annual internet-based creative writing project that takes place during the month of November. NaNoWriMo challenges participants to write 50,000 words of a new novel from November 1-30. The goal is to influence people to start writing and motivate them throughout the process. The idea is to focus on the length of the work, rather than the quality, resulting in a first draft that can later be edited at the author's discretion. The project started in July 1999 with just 21 participants, and by 2010, the event included over 200,000 people.
The conference room will be available for two hours every day as an open writing lab. People are welcome to drop in and have a quiet place to work.
