About The Program

Welcome to the District’s adult reading program, now in its seventh year.

Reading Las Vegas was developed to bring adults together to celebrate the power and passion of reading. In addition to prizes, including the Grand Prize of two tickets on Southwest Airlines, participants may enjoy free films, book discussion groups, workshops, author visits and more.

This year, the highlight of our popular program is The Great Gatsby. Developed in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and Arts Midwest, The Big Read encourages literary reading by asking communities to come together to read and discuss one book.

This year The Big Read selection is The Great Gatsby. Written in 1925, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel of the decadence and excesses of the “Jazz Age” is considered to be his best and is a staple of American literature.

Sign up for the program starting April 1 and receive a Reading Las Vegas tote bag generously paid for by the Friends of Southern Nevada Libraries and a complimentary paperback copy of The Great Gatsby provided by The Big Read grant (while supplies last). Read The Great Gatsby or other books of your choice, listen to an audio book or eAudio book, attend any adult library-sponsored program including Reading Las Vegas events, or attend a library-sponsored book discussion group. Complete an entry form and you may be eligible to win prizes.
