Q. What is an eBook?
A. An eBook is a digital copy of a book that can be read on any computer with an Internet connection.

Q. Do I need a library card to read an eBook?
A. Yes. eBooks are available to all residents of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District from in the library and from home.

Q. What are some of the extra features of an eBook?
A. Each of our eBooks has a navigable table of contents, a search feature, a dictionary and a help menu.

Q. How many eBooks does our library have?
A. We have 642 unique eBook titles. In some cases we have purchased two copies of a title.

A. eBooks are located at Good Books.

A. You can check out 7 eBooks at any one time.

A. You may borrow an eBook for 48 hours.

Q. If I need more time can I renew my eBooks?
A. No, but you can return the eBook and then check it back out again.

Q. I tried to check out an eBook and I received this message: "All copies of the eBook you are attempting to view are currently checked out." What does that mean?
A. eBooks are like real books. If we have purchased only one copy and someone else has borrowed the book you must wait until the book is returned before it is available.

Q. Do I need a reader or computer software program to read my eBooks?
A. No. You can read eBooks online through your web browser (version 4.0 or greater of Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator). There is no longer a feature that allows you to download the books to your hard drive or a disk, so you will need an Internet connection to read eBooks.

Q. If I forget to return the eBook will I have to pay a fine?
A. No. Although we recommend that you return your eBooks to make them available for other borrowers, your eBooks will automatically time out after 48 hours.

Q. I've finished reading my eBook. How do I check it back in?
A. eBooks will automatically time out after 48 hours; however, we urge our patrons to check in their eBooks to make them available for others. After you log in to netLibrary, click on "My eBooks". A list will appear with the eBooks that you have checked out. Click on the drop down menu to the right and select "Return eBook to Library".

Q. Can I request, order or reserve an eBook through the library's catalog?
A. No. eBooks are available on a first-come first-serve basis. In the future eBooks will be available through the library catalog but will not be part of the request system.

Q. Can I download an eBook to my hard drive or a disk?
A. No, that feature has been removed by the NetLibrary Company. You must be connected to the Internet to view an eBook.

Q. If I download an eBook how much time do I have?
A. Again, you will have the eBook for 48 hours until it expires.

Q. When I find an interesting eBook I have the option to Browse, Checkout or Download the eBook. What are the differences between these three options?
A.

"Browsing" an eBook is like pulling it off the shelf to take a quick look at it. After approximately 15 minutes of inactivity, the eBook may be requested by another library patron.

"Check Out and Read Online" takes you directly into the eBook online. This option gives you exclusive access to a copyrighted eBook for 48 hours. You can read the eBook page-by-page, search by keyword or choose any part of the book through the Table of Contents.

Q. Can I print an eBook?
A. eBooks were not designed to be printed in their entirety; however, you may copy and paste text into your word processing software.
