By the end of 2004, an estimated 40.3 million people worldwide were living with HIV/AIDS. The year also saw more than three million deaths from AIDS, despite recent improvements in access to antiretroviral treatment. You can see theWorld HIV & AIDS Statistics here. In the United States, the CDC estimates there are 1,039,000 to 1,185,000 people living with HIV/AIDS and 24-27% of the people were undiagnosed or unaware they had HIV.
