African American Collection
West Las Vegas Library
The African American Special Collection consists of specialized materials by and about African Americans. The emphasis of the collection is on the African American Experience in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the West. The core collection consists of books, periodicals, government publications, videos, and other audiovisual materials. The collection also provides a file of pamphlets, newspaper clippings and photographs.
These web pages have been funded under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the Nevada State Library and Archives.

Asian Culture Collection
Spring Valley Library
The Asian Culture Collection is a multimedia collection which includes books, audiocassettes, videos, newspapers and periodicals. Materials are available in many of the Asian languages. The collection also includes books written in English that reflect the various cultures of Asian countries. Currently, Spring Valley Library's Asian Culture Collection has over 2,000 titles.

The Health Science Library offers a wide variety of health-related materials, resources, and services to the general public and supports the Health Professions programs at the Community College of Southern Nevada. The collection provides books, videos and audio materials for circulation. The Reference collection features resources for research on health and medical topics. The collection includes periodicals that range from general newsletters to medical journals. In addition, the Library provides specialized databases, which will assist the library user with locating the most current information available.
Consumer Health Connection
Funded by an award from the National Library of Medicine, Consumer Health Connection offers Internet access to authoritative sources, which will assist the consumer with making informed decisions.

It is a selected list of sources designed to assist the user in locating current health information to better understand their condition. While the direct Internet sites have been evaluated for quality, accuracy, and currency we cannot vouch for information linked from each web site.

INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGE
International Language Collection
Sahara West Library
The
International Languages Room at the Sahara West Library
has become a precious resource for the people of Clark
County - a beautiful space in which residents who are
comfortable with non-English languages can find information
and recreation. Over the past decade Las Vegas has become
an international crossroads, and the library, in an
effort to truly reflect its community, has dedicated
itself to creating an outstanding collection of print
and audio-visual materials for our patrons.
We
opened the doors to this very special collection in
the winter of 2001, and a welcoming ceremony was held
for the community in May of 2002 in conjunction with
Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. The International
Languages Room places a special emphasis on Asian languages,
but languages from around the globe are represented
in our collection.
Included
in this collection are both fiction and non-fiction
books, videos (many with subtitles in English), cassettes,
and, for those who are interested in learning English,
ESL (English as a Second Language) materials.

JEAN FORD
Jean Ford Collection For Citizen Action and Community Building
Clark County Library
Jean Ford
– community activist, state legislator and tireless worker
for women's causes – was the driving force behind the founding
of the Clark
County Library. Prior to her death in 1998, she gave the
Library District a collection of her own materials relating
to community activism, grass roots political organization
and leadership.
The collection
includes some original materials, as well as reprints, pamphlets,
books and articles. Ms. Ford's family and friends have contributed
awards, proclamations and other memorabilia that are displayed
with the collection.
The Jean
Ford Special Collections for Citizen Action and Community
Building was established to foster citizen participation in
grass roots community and political processes. The collection
provides resources to encourage citizen participation and
to empower individuals or groups as they develop their agendas.
These

GAMING/LOCAL HISTORY
Jack I. Gardner Special Collections Room for Local History & Gaming
Las Vegas Library
The
Las Vegas history collection includes books, a biographical
clipping file, microfilm, maps and a newspaper
index. The newspaper index is the primary source for locating
historical information regarding local events in Las Vegas
and Clark County. It indexes information from the Las
Vegas-Review Journal and the Las Vegas Sun newspapers. Scrapbooks and other documents concerning
the history of the Library District are also available
in this collection.
The
gaming collection provides an overview of the gaming industry
and the casinos. There are specific books on gaming which
provide "how-to" information on games played in the Las
Vegas casinos and information on older games as well.
The collection includes periodicals, videos, and books.

Funding and Grants Center
Clark County Library
As
the Southern Nevada Cooperating Collection of the Foundation
Center (based in New York), the Funding and Grants Center
provides information on charitable foundations, corporate
givers and government sources of funding for non-profit
groups. The collection includes directories, books and
periodicals. It also has several CD-ROMs to help identify
funding information more quickly and conveniently.
Several
times a year, workshops are presented on the use of the
materials; other programs are also held in cooperation
with local fund seekers and fund-giving groups. The Library District
also publishes the Nevada Funding Directory.

Federal Depository Library Program
Las Vegas Library
The
Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) was established
by Congress to ensure that the American public has access
to Government's information. The Las Vegas Library Clark
County Library District, serving the 1st U.S. Congressional
District, was designated a Federal depository in 1974.
13% of the available materials are selected by LVCCLD;
the depository collection is located at Las Vegas Library.
Many
government documents also are available online through
the Internet. The Government
Printing Office provides Federal documents through
their web page. Most Federal branches and agencies also
maintain websites. Popular examples are the White
House web page and the Social
Security Administration.
State Publications Distribution Center
Las Vegas Library
The
Las Vegas Library is a Nevada Publications Distribution
Center, which was created by Nevada statute in 1971. All
designated depository libraries keep state and local publications
accessible for use, and provide assistance without charge,
to library users wishing to review those materials.
Materials
cover a broad scope and are published by various government
agencies including the following: Agriculture Department;
Architectural Board; Attorney General; Business and Industry;
Economic Development Commission; Education, Employment,
Training & Rehabilitation; Gaming Control Board; Governor's
Office; Human Resources; Legislative Counsel Bureau; Motor
Vehicle and Public Safety; Museum, Library & Arts; Secretary
of State; Tourism Commission; and the University & College
System of Nevada. For more information about this program

Nevada State Data Center
Las Vegas Library
The
Las Vegas Library participates in the State Data Center
Program, a cooperative effort of the U.S. Census Bureau
and the states to improve public access to census statistics
and information. The library receives numerous printed
publications and CD-ROMs from the U.S. Census Bureau.
These contain abundant facts regarding almost every facet
of American life. The library incorporates the State Data
Center materials into its reference collection. For more

PATENTS
Patent & Trademark Depository Library
Clark County Library
This
collection is part of a nationwide network of Patent
and Trademark Libraries designed to provide convenient
access for the public to patent and trademark records.
The collection consists of a 20-year backfile of patents
on CD-ROM, along with the necessary indexes and manuals
required to perform adequate patent searches. Additionally,
the library receives, on a regular basis, current CD-ROMs
and other updated materials. Internet access to the
U.S. Patent and Trademark Office web site, and to other
useful intellectual property sites is also available.
