back to main Special Collections page

COLLECTION OVERVIEW

In December 1997, the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Board of Trustees established the Jean Ford Special Collection for Citizen Action/Community Building. The collection was established to honor Ford's community service and devotion to Nevada.

Additionally, the Board established the Jean Ford Library Award to be given annually in recognition of an individual's or organization's contribution to libraries in Nevada. The mission of Jean Ford Special Collections is to foster citizen participation in grass roots community and political processes by providing resources, stimulating dialogue, and interest in becoming a catalyst for community action. Its aim is to provide the tools and materials to encourage citizen participation and to empower individuals or groups as they develop their agendas.

Papers, materials, and books that Ford collected over the years and donated to the Library District form the basis of the collection. Most of the collection consists of seminar materials, handouts, brochures, fliers, seminar notes and presentations, magazine and journal articles, and videos. They have been organized in two series: Leadership and Politics.
