WOMEN'S POLITICS
In spite of the defeat of the Equal Rights Amendment in the Nevada Legislature, Jean continued to be active in women's rights issues. She was appointed chair of the International Women's Year Coordinating Committee (committee members were appointed by the Nevada congressional delegation). Jean chaired the Nevada Women's Conference, held in Las Vegas in June 1977.
The conference was a mix of practical information for women, such as running your own business, health and nutrition, and marriage enrichment, along with political and legal issues. Approximately 1,700 people registered for the three-day conference. Jean also chaired a delegation of Nevada women who attended the National Women's Conference in Houston celebrating 1977 as International Women's Year.
